MedSeg is published as a free tool for research, education, and personal
non-commercial use. Commercial and clinical-service use of MedSeg is not
permitted under this license. See Section 3.


1. SOURCE CODE

The source code of MedSeg is proprietary. You may not copy, redistribute,
modify, sublicense, or create derivative works of the source code without
prior written permission from the copyright holder.


2. PERMITTED USE

You may use MedSeg free of charge for any of the following purposes:

  (a) Personal research, study, and experimentation;
  (b) Academic teaching, coursework, and supervised learning;
  (c) Non-commercial scientific research;
  (d) Personal, non-commercial use.

"Use" means running the software, viewing its outputs, and applying those
outputs within the activities listed above. Use does not include
redistribution of the source code (see Section 1).


3. COMMERCIAL AND CLINICAL USE

This release of MedSeg is not licensed for commercial use, including but
not limited to use within a for-profit clinical practice, a paid service
offering, a hosted product offered to third parties for a fee, or any
product or service sold for value. A separate product, offered under
separate terms with a different bundled feature set, is available for
commercial and clinical engagements. Contact the copyright holder at

4. RESEARCH-USE-ONLY MEDICAL DISCLAIMER

MEDSEG IS PROVIDED FOR RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY.

MedSeg is NOT a medical device. MedSeg has not been evaluated, cleared,
approved, certified, or registered by the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the United
Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA),
Health Canada, or any other national or international medical-device
regulatory authority. MedSeg does not carry a CE mark and is not
registered as a medical device in any jurisdiction.

MedSeg must not be used as the basis for, or in support of, any clinical
diagnosis, treatment decision, prognosis, screening, or other medical
decision affecting the care of any patient. The outputs of MedSeg may
contain inaccuracies, omissions, artifacts, or errors. Any clinical or
medical interpretation requires independent verification by a qualified
medical professional using tools that have been appropriately validated
and approved for that purpose.

You, the user, assume all responsibility and risk for any use of MedSeg
and for any decisions made on the basis of its outputs.


5. THIRD-PARTY COMPONENTS

MedSeg incorporates and depends on third-party software, models, and
assets. A list of those components and their licenses is provided in the
file THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.

Some third-party components are subject to their own license terms,
including non-commercial restrictions and requirements that you supply a
separate license file (for example, FreeSurfer). Your use of MedSeg is
also subject to those terms. Where those terms conflict with this
license, the more restrictive terms apply to the affected component.


6. NO WARRANTY

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS
OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF
MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND
NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE
LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION
OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION
WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.
